Can I download a map that does not display correctly?
If you click on a link for one of our maps and don't get a correct display in your browser (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.), all is not lost. You very probably can download a copy of the map to your computer.
When you click on a link to one of our maps, you give your browser the file name and location of the map. By default, browsers try to display the specified image. But in most browsers, there's a secondary function: download. In Windows browsers, this is typically accessed by mouse right-click; on MacOS, by mouse option-click. In response, you'll be given a chance to specify where to put the downloaded file. Complete the command sequence and you should see an indication that the download has commenced. When the download completes, you should be able to see a complete, correct rendering of the map by opening the downloaded file.
Note: You can probably close the original window without disrupting the download at all. Once a download is started, in most browsers, the download is independent of viewing in a browser window. Closing the original window will likely result in a faster download, too. Top
The link to map x is broken. What can I do?
Once in a great while we make a mistake and you'll find a broken link. But most often when visitors report a broken link, we check and find the link is valid. See the FAQ The map I'm trying to view/download doesn't display correctly. What to do? for more information. Top
The map I'm trying to view doesn't display correctly. What to do?
Sometimes browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) cannot cope with our maps. In such cases you see absent, incomplete, or incorrect rendering of the map in your browser window. This seems to occur most frequently with our larger map files, and is likely a result of temporary resource limitations on your computer.
In such cases, you may be able to solve the problem by quitting and restarting your browser, using a different browser, or restarting your computer.
