A so-called „Schrötter's map”,
600 dpi scan, as the map contains fine detail.
A sheet with interesting history, an incomplete sheet, with
somewhat convoluted ownership. After WW2 it was purchased in German,
however it has, an illegible annotation which is, nevertheless in
cyrilic. It appears therefore, that at some point the map fell into
Russian hands and later it was recovered.

16 district maps (Kreiskarten) dated approx. 1835 - 1840. The districts
belonged, by 1905, to the Government District (Regierungsbezirk) of
Gumbinnen, the east part of Ostpreussen, Scale 1:150,000, 400 dpi
resolution. The maps are based on 1:200,000 Reymannkarte .

Drawn by P.Langner and J.Lejczak, toponymy by W. Kucharski. Map title
in bottom-left corner of setion (sheet) 4, which also included a small
plan of Warsaw and key to the map symbols. 1:750,000 scale Individual
sheet titles placed on the top or bottom margin:
1: Poznań, Gdańsk, Kalisz; 2: Warszawa, Suwałki, Królewiec; 3: Wilno,
Brzesć Litewski, Mińsk; 4: Wiedeń, Cieszyn, Wrocław; 5: Kraków, Lublin,
Przemyśl; 6: Lwów, Włodzimierz Wołyński, Czerniowce.
When combined, they make up one sheet (size 100.5 x 116.5 cm) .

A very large (1.7 m x 1.7 m) map which, due to its overall size
had to be glued together from two sheets. The map coverage extends far
to the east, past Smolensk and Kiev, south-east reaching Odessa and
Budapest to the south. The western coverage stops at Lubań (Lauben),
Krosno (Odrzańskie) - German Crossen a.d. Oder and, north-east reaches
past Riga. The map shows some interesting, post-WW1 borders:
“Polish ethnographic area”
„line of Bolshevik-Lithuanian treaty”
„Żeligowski front-line”
„Foch line”
„borders of Polish administrative control”). Unfortunately the map is in very bad shape. |
