the 1:500,000
WIG map called Mapa
Polski i Krajów Ościennych (Map of Poland and
Adjacent Countries), last sheets published c. 1946.
Post-WWII Variants
A variant produced in communist Poland, from 1946 onwards by Wojskowy
Instytut Geograficzny
Sztabu Generalnego (General Staff, WIG). These sheets
were not too different, apart from the change of borders, of course,
but they were cut along different lines. In the hard-line communist
times of 1950s, the series was continued, reverting to the
pre-WW2 international numbering system, but the sheets to the east,
such as
Lwow, Vilnius and Kaunas are based on Soviet, pre- and post-WW2 maps (index
sheet in Mapster). Index sheet (Mapster interface) for the 1st (1946 - ) post-WW2
edition (sheets 1 - 12) is HERE.
